With all the recent buzz about social media, you’d think that no other form of advertising worked anymore.  Social media is fantastic and should definitely be added to your  marketing mix. But don’t stop doing all of the things that got you where you are today.  If you feel that e-mail blasts or direct mail works for you  ~ keep doing it!  Love your magazine ad or radio commercials? Continue!

Billboards, magazine ads, direct mail… they are great but they are one-dimensional.  What social media can do is breathe life into your brand. give it a soul and a personality.  So that when that postcard arrives in the mail or they get a message from your company in their e-mail inbox, the message is more likely to be warmly received. Because you have spent time developing a two-way connection through your social media channels. It’s the Yin and Yang and it all works together in perfect harmony.  It’s important to tie the pieces of your campaigns together to form not only a cohesive message but to make them all work together.

Here’s a great example of a piece designed for Bread Winners Cafe & Bakery:

When you dine at Bread Winners, they bring your bill in a check carrier book.   These 3″ x 6″ cards go into the left-hand pocket and the bill goes in the right-hand pocket.  Every diner who enters their restaurant, leaves knowing that Bread Winners has a social media presence.  They also get a reminder of their weekly specials.

Use your traditional media and current marketing pieces to leverage your social media presence.   Social media is the chatty, informal conversation that will make your customers more receptive to the more formal marketing messages.  Yin and yang = harmony.
