A Tale About the Power of Relationships.

Have your people call my people… is what this article could have been titled.

In the September issue of D CEO Magazine, Will Maddox spoke to Golden Chick’s CEO, Jim Stevens, about how he led his team through the pandemic of 2020, and how an unlikely partnership with Fletcher’s Original Corny Dogs saved them both. The result of this partnership resulted in Golden Chick selling nearly 500,000 corny dogs throughout 187 of their locations in Texas, Oklahoma, and louisiana (primarily), with some locations selling 500 a day. Stevens says, “That month was the best year (Golden Chick) ever had.”

“Stevens’ people called Fletcher’s people. Existing connections between the marketing execs at each company helped pave the way for a partnership; both sides agreed it would be a win-win. But the partners had no idea how successful it would be.”

Back story: Golden Chick’s Publicist is Amy Power of Power PR. We have been friendly for over a decade and see each socially at various events. I have a lot of respect for Amy and what she has accomplished since I’ve known her and how’s she’s built her team. When the Golden Chick team brought this idea to Amy, she picked up the phone and called me, “What do you think?” she asked. I loved it. And within a few days we were all sitting around the conference table at Golden Chick’s corporate office in Richardson striking a deal. I was told that normally these types of collaborations take six months on average to negotiate and implement. This one happened in a matter of weeks. All due to everyone’s willingness to not let COVID-19 take us down - and the power of relationships.
